synthcore

Synthcore is a hybrid of hardcore or metalcore aggression and prominent electronic production: distorted guitars, shouted vocals, breakdowns, and forceful drumming are reinforced by synthesizers, sequenced beats, vocal processing, and digitally sculpted textures. The term is most often associated with the late-2000s and 2010s wave of electronicore and post-hardcore, though it is used broadly and inconsistently for music ranging from riff-driven bands such as Asking Alexandria and His Statue Falls to more technically electronic projects such as The Algorithm.

Unlike industrial, which generally foregrounds mechanical repetition and abrasive sound design, synthcore retains the physical impact and song structures of hardcore—especially the build-and-breakdown dynamic. Its electronic elements may be cinematic, glitchy, or dance-oriented, but they function as an active part of the band’s attack rather than merely atmospheric decoration. It is also distinct from trancecore when its emphasis falls on heavy riffs and mosh-ready dynamics instead of sustained trance melodies and club rhythms. Synthcore is worth hearing for that tension between digital precision and live, confrontational force: music engineered for both the dance floor and the pit.
